Pretty Little Indies: Valerie Chase

I am so excited to have Valerie Chase here for Pretty Little Indies this week! She's one of the New Adult authors that I truly love. Stick around because we have so much stuff for you guys today! An interview, review of her new release, With Every Breath, and a giveaway!

With Every Breath by Valerie Chase
(Sea Swept #2)

Genres: New Adult, Contemporary Romance

Yasmin Alejo used to have a plan: get into grad school, work her butt off, and become Dr. Alejo,
PhD. But then her sister’s death shatters everything.

Heartbroken, Yasmin gets a job as a cruise ship photographer aboard the Radiant Star. She just wants some time to heal, but her infuriating—and annoyingly sexy—boss won’t give her any peace.

West Campbell used to care about more than money, but those days died along with his mom’s passing. Now he has only one goal: squeezing as much profit from the Radiant Star’s photography department as he can, in order to win a prized corporate management job. He won’t let anyone mess with that—especially not the feisty and gorgeous Yasmin, who seems more interested in getting to know the passengers than selling them vacation packages.

As they sail across open waters, Yasmin and West will fight storms, seasickness, and each other, until they can’t deny their connection any longer. Every tantalizing kiss will take their breaths away … but if they can’t get over the past, it might destroy their future.
The Good:
  • Yasmin and West are amazing characters.
  • The setting is amazing.
  • Valerie Chase's writing is so good.
The Bad:
  • Come on... Nothing.
The Gif:

Ya'll, I love Valerie Chase. Whenever I agreed to read and review her debut novel, Full Steam Ahead, earlier this year, I never expected to love it like I did. She writes New Adult in a way that makes me want to comb the genre for more stories like hers. Whenever she asked me to read and review With Every Breath, it was a no brainer. She is an amazing writer, and I always love her characters.

With Every Breath takes place on a cruise ship, and I really enjoyed the setting. It felt like I was actually on the ship with Yasmin and West. You can just tell that Valerie has researched. Her writing and descriptions put you right into the story with the characters.

Yasmin and West were such a hot and cold romance. But I didn't mind it. It added a new element. Would they, wouldn't they? I definitely connected with the both of them. They both had issues that they had to get through, and I know exactly how that feels. I got so invested in these characters and their relationship. Valerie definitely ramped up the steaminess with this one, and it was HOT! The attraction was definitely there, and I'm glad I got to witness their love develop.

You guys know I have such a hard time with some New Adult books. That is not the case with Valerie Chase's books. She's a fantastic writer who gives us such amazing characters that you just have to love. I cannot wait for the next book in this series! If you're a New Adult fan, you will LOVE getting lost in With Every Breath!

**I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. My thanks to Valerie Chase.

1. Describe With Every Breath in one word.
Great question! Hmm, one word? I'd pick healing. Both of the main characters in With Every Breath (Yasmin and West) have lost important people in their lives, and this book is about them falling in love as well as coming to terms with their grief.

2. If you could choose any TV show to promote your book on, which would you choose?
Probably the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon because he's hilarious, and I'd love to challenge him to a lip-synching contest!

3. Which chapter of With Every Breath was your favorite to write?
The bell tower scene. I shall say no more. :)

4. What advice would you give to aspiring authors?
Never give up, never surrender! Publishing and writing can be very hard and draining but it's so worth it in the end. Getting my very first fan email is one of the highlights of my year!

5. Where does the inspiration for your characters come from?
All over the place, really! I draw inspiration from my friends and acquaintances as well as from TV. Like reality shows, haha.

6. You can only read one book (that isn't one of yours) for the rest of your life. Which is it?
Oh, so tough! A part of me wants to cheat and choose the Encyclopedia Brittanica because that would keep me occupied for a looong time. But if I'm forced to choose one book I'd go with The Devil in Winter by Lisa Kleypas because I love historical romance and I adore St. Vincent!

7. If you wrote a book about your life, what would the title be?
I'd call it Bon Voyage, because I absolutely and positively love traveling! Granted I don't get to do it as much as I'd like but a girl can dream, right?

8. Lastly, what's up next for you? Any projects we should be looking out for?
Next up I'm working on Book 3 of the Sea Swept series, tentatively titled Stars Burn Bright. This book follows Elise, a character in my previous novels Full Steam Ahead and With Every Breath; and it's also set aboard a cruise. I'm super excited about it!

***

Chocolate or vanilla? Chocolate. Especially Nutella!
Winter or summer? Summer. Let's go to the beach!
Train, plane, or boat? Boat, specifically a cruise ship, please.
Cookies or cake? Cookies.
Paperback, hardback, or ebook? eBook! I can't live without my iPhone Kindle app.

Choose one character from With Every Breath that you get to go on a road trip with. Who, where, and why?
I'd have to choose my girl Yasmin, the main character from With Every Breath, because she's fun and easy-going and spontaneous. As to where we'd go, I vote for the Italian coastline! It looks gorgeous, and we'd eat great food and drink fantastic wine. And Italian men are pretty easy on the eyes!

Valerie Chase writes New Adult romance in the suburbs of Washington, DC. When she isn’t typing away on her laptop or dreaming up swoon-worthy kiss scenes, she loves sipping hot tea, taking long walks by her house, and getting lost in indie bookstores. (You’ll probably find her in one right now.) Full Steam Ahead is her first book.
